HOW DOES IT WORK?

The birth comb works on the 'Gate Control' theory, which states that non-painful input can close the nerve "gates" in the spine and prevent pain sensations travelling to the brain. Instead, the brain focuses on an alternative stimulus (much in the same way a TENS machine works).

By squeezing the comb in your hand, you are giving your brain an alternative sensation to focus on, offering a distraction from your contractions/surges. This works on both a physical and psychological level.

The comb also stimulates the LaoGong acupressure point - one of the most powerful acupressure points - reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. LaoGong is located at the centre of your palm where the tip of your middle finger touches your palm when you make a fist.

After baby has arrived the comb can be used in any situation where you might need to feel calmer or reduce feelings of pain.
 

HOW TO USE:  

• ​​​Remove comb from storage pouch and hold in your hand, ensuring the teeth are pressing on the LaoGong acupressure point.
• During contractions/surges, squeeze the comb in your hand. The teeth will stimulate the LaoGong acupressure point and also act as a distraction.
• We recommend swapping hands occasionally to ensure no damage is caused to the palm whilst using the comb.
