Perineal massage is can be used throughout pregnancy, but it is recommended in the latter stages of pregnancy (34 - 36 weeks and beyond). Perineal Massage Oil has been clinically proven help the perineum to stretch during the birth by improving the elasticity of the skin, thereby reducing the likelihood of tearing during birth or requiring an episiotomy. The Perineal Massage Oil can also help with speedier recovery of the perineum after birth and can be used post-birth to encourage this. Our carefully selected natural oils combined with regular perineal massage help to increase the natural suppleness of the perineum.

What are the benefits of perineal massage?
The evidence suggests that women having their first baby, women 30 years and older and women who have had episiotomies before, can particularly benefit from perineal massage. Perineal massage can also be beneficial to women who are planning a first vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC).

Reasons why you should consider perineal massage:

• It helps to gradually soften and stretch the perineum ready for birth and reducing the risk of a perineal tear that requires stitches.
• It helps you know your body and prepares you for the feeling of pressure and stretching that you feel as your baby’s head is being born. This will help you relax and take active part in the birth of your child.

Ingredients

Wheatgerm is a viscous, dark orange oil with a distinctive aroma. It is an extremely valuable source of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins A, D, E and B vitamins. It contains 190mg vitamin E per 100ml. Vitamin E helps reduce skin damage and supports healthy collagen formation.

Wheatgerm oil softens, moisturises and boosts the regenerative powers of the skin, helping to reduce scarring. It is readily absorbed by the skin so leaves no greasy feeling after use.

Peach Kernel is a pale orange tinted oil with a light, velvety texture and a delicate, sweet aroma. Its main therapeutic components are the omega fatty acids oleic acid and linoleic acid. It is also high in minerals and vitamins, especially Vitamin E.

Peach Kernel oil has anti-inflammatory, protective and moisturising properties. It is hypoallergenic, making it perfect for use on sensitive skin. It easily penetrates the skin leaving no greasy residue., promotes healthy skin and elasticity.

To effectively massage the perineum you will need to place pressure on it to help it stretch. This may be slightly uncomfortable, but mimics the pressure of baby's head during birth. We recommend that you use the Perineal Massage Oil 2-3 times per week for maximum affectiveness.
